Welcome to Croydon Nursery
A very warm welcome to The Co-operative Childcare.

Here you will find lots of general information that should be useful in getting a feel for the setting, however every child is individual and you will undoubtedly have lots of questions that relate specifically to your child’s needs, interests and their development. A tour of our quality facilities would be highly recommended in order to fully appreciate how the nursery operates and to see first hand the care and attention that each child receives. To arrange a tour, simply use the contact details on this page or pop in to the nursery itself.

At The Co-operative Childcare we never underestimate how difficult a decision it is to leave your child in the care of others and our aim is to ensure that you have all the information you need to make this very important decision.

Latest Ofsted report

“The new manager and deputy are a very dynamic team who together recognise the importance of continuous assessment and monitoring to ensure that standards are high and that all welfare and learning requirements are met. On a day to day basis the setting runs smoothly and staff and resources are deployed well, the management team are regular visitors to each room to not only work alongside staff, but to monitor and offer support for all staff. Our people

Our nursery team are friendly and approachable and attend numerous training courses to enhance their knowledge, enabling them to provide the best care and enjoyable learning experiences for our children. All colleagues are qualified or working towards their qualifications and together they have over 150 years of experience in childcare. Our Nursery Manager Anne has over 28 years of experience in childcare and there is a dedicated, loyal team of 23 colleagues who provide the best possible care in a warm and welcoming nursery setting.

Indoor facilities

The Co-operative Childcare nursery is a stimulating, safe and secure environment for your child and we pride ourselves on our friendly atmosphere where every child is treated as an individual.

We have 4 bright and spacious rooms all with direct access to the outdoors; one room for 3 months – 1 year olds, one room for 1-2 year olds, one room for the 2-3 year olds and our final room for the 3-5 year olds. The children are moved around the rooms not only based on their age but also on their own personal development. All rooms have hand washing facilities and changing areas and our baby room has a separate milk kitchen to prepare their feeds.

Outdoor facilities

The nursery has a large garden which is divided it into two areas; one for our under two year olds and one for our older children. Within the garden children can explore our nature reserve, climb and balance on our safe and soft play area or enhance their imagination in the ‘princess palace’. There is an opportunity for bike riding and our outdoor activities mirror the indoor activities with painting, sand and water play as well as building blocks and quiet reading areas to ensure all our children’s needs and interests are met.

Activities

There are many activities and play that takes place at the nursery and supports the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Framework.

Activities are planned for all age groups to ensure a flexible and balanced curriculum with a combination of busy and quiet activities, indoor and outdoor play. The children are also actively encouraged to make their own choices and initiate their own play.

Parents are encouraged to extend our children’s learning at home and we include parents in some of our activities such as Dads Day and International Day where we celebrate our cultural diversity. Parents are also invited to attend a range of activities with their children; sports day, fun days, charitable fund raising events, and also any general outings to parks and local theatre groups.

Food

At The Co-operative Childcare we offer a comprehensive package and provide all nappies and food (breakfast, mid morning snack, lunch, mid afternoon snack, tea). Our experienced chef has been with us for over 8 years and has extensive catering experience. She prepares a home cooked lunch every day using fresh produce sourced from local suppliers where possible. This supports our ethics and values of being a co-operative and gives the children the nutrition they need to ensure they grow healthily whilst in our care. We also cater for all dietary requirements, allergies and cultural foods and our food is freshly made on a daily basis. Children always have access to fresh drinking water.

Parent involvement

The parents have an information board located in the reception area which has a variety of useful information. Our baby and toddler rooms have a feedback sheet which includes the children’s daily information of how they have been, including sleep, food, nappies and anything that they have enjoyed during the day. The 3-5 year olds carers give verbal feedback to the parent on a daily basis. Regular newsletters are sent to parents to keep them updated on up and coming events and we encourage parent participation in many of them. Parents evening are offered at regular intervals throughout the year where the child’s key person discusses the child’s development with their parents and there is also an annual survey for parents to give structured feedback on all areas of the nursery.

A word from the nursery manager

“The nursery is located in the safe and secure grounds of Croydon University Hospital and prides itself on providing quality childcare where every child is treated as individual. We aim to promote and support our children’s learning and ensure that they feel safe and secure in a stimulating environment, where they can build on their skills and various stages of development.

My team of committed professionals believe that children have a huge capacity to learn and therefore our planning always reflects individual needs and each child’s own unique learning style”
