Welcome to Cam Nursery, Nr Dursley
A very warm welcome to The Co-operative Childcare.

Here you will find lots of general information that should be useful in getting a feel for the setting, however every child is individual and you will undoubtedly have lots of questions that relate specifically to your child’s needs, interests and their development. A tour of our quality facilities would be highly recommended in order to fully appreciate how the nursery operates and to see first hand the care and attention that each child receives. To arrange a tour, simply use the contact details on this page or pop in to the nursery itself.

At The Co-operative Childcare we never underestimate how difficult a decision it is to leave your child in the care of others and our aim is to ensure that you have all the information you need to make this very important decision.

Our people

Our nursery team are friendly and approachable and attend numerous training courses to enhance their knowledge, enabling them to provide the best care and enjoyable learning experiences for our children. All colleagues are qualified or working towards their qualifications and together they have over 70 years of experience in childcare. Our Nursery Manager Sally has worked at the Cam Nursery for 2 years and has a total of 14 years experience in childcare. There is a dedicated, loyal team of 18 colleagues who provide the best possible care in a homely nursery setting.

The team are also proud to have been awarded the Bristol Standards Quality Improvement Certificate (Birth to Five) in November 2010 in recognition of the continuing reflective journey and constant improvements made.

Indoor facilities

At The Co-operative Childcare in Cam, we pride ourselves on our warm and welcoming atmosphere. The nursery is set in a converted house therefore has that home from home feel that helps our children to feel safe and secure. There are 4 home rooms within our nursery split into the following age groups: 0-2 year olds, 2-3 year olds, 3-5 year olds. There are 2 rooms for under 2 years of age situated on the first floor. On the ground floor are the rooms for the 2-3 year olds and the 3-5 year olds which are free flow and can be joined together at appropriate times.

Outdoor facilities

The nursery has a car park to the front of the building for easy access. There is a garden to rear and side of the building. The garden includes a nature area, a growing area, 2 soft play areas and a dedicated baby garden The Cam nursery is a small friendly neighbourhood nursery which is very much part of the local community. There is access to many local facilities including park, woodland, ambulance station, farm, police station and library for children’s outings.

Activities

There are many activities in addition to the core learning and play that takes place at the nursery and supports the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework. Active start physical education sessions take place once per fortnight at no extra charge to parents. There is an option for children to take part in French lessons on a weekly basis for which there is a small charge.

Food

At The Co-operative Childcare we offer an all inclusive package and provide all nappies, formula milk and food (breakfast, midmorning snack, lunch, mid afternoon snack, tea). Our chef prepares a home cooked lunch every day using fresh, local produce from local suppliers including meat which is sourced from the local family butcher and all the fruit and vegetables are purchased from the local shambles market. This supports our ethics and values of being a co-operative and gives the children the nutrition they need to ensure they grow healthily whilst in our care. We also cater for all dietary requirements and allergies. The children also enjoy growing some of their own fruit and vegetables in the garden of the nursery.

Parent involvement

Daily diaries and notice boards are used to inform parents of activities on a daily basis. Monthly newsletters are produced and emailed where possible and parent’s evenings are held regularly throughout the year to discuss the children’s progress. The key person approach is used to maintain consistency and to develop close relationships with not only our children but their parents and carers also. Each room has a planning board which explains what, how and why we do activities and each child has a learning journey file which documents their development and parents are able to freely access these at all times. Outside agencies i.e. speech therapists, health visitors and family services are liaised with closely in order to offer the best possible care for all children. Visits from preschool practitioners and primary teachers are also encouraged in order to help make transitions between settings as easy as possible for both children and parents
