Our people

Our nursery team are friendly, approachable and have attended numerous training courses to enhance their knowledge, enabling them to provide the best care and enjoyable learning experiences for our children. All colleagues are qualified or working towards their qualifications and together they have over 55 years of experience in childcare. Our Nursery Manager Fiona has worked in childcare for over 9 years and there is a dedicated, loyal team of 15 colleagues who help our children to have the best start in life in a brightly refurbished modern nursery setting.

Indoor facilities

The Co-operative Childcare nursery is a stimulating, safe and secure environment for your child and we pride ourselves on our warm and welcoming atmosphere. There are three home rooms within our small and friendly nursery split into the following age groups: one room for our 3 months to 2 year olds which includes a separate sleep room, nappy changing room and milk kitchen for our younger children and one room for our 2 to 3 year olds with their own bathroom facilities. These rooms are located on the ground floor and provide direct access to the outdoors. Our older children aged from 3 to 5 years have their own room located on the first floor with their own bathroom.

Outdoor facilities

The nursery has a secure and secluded garden area which has a variety of play surfaces from grass to soft play tarmac for our older children. The children have also planted vegetables into the vegetable garden and are encouraged to help with the watering of them. There is also a separate play area for the younger children to be able to access the outside environment safely including a sheltered space which allows for outdoor play in all weather conditions. The children play with a variety of physical equipment from cars and bikes to hoops and balls.

Activities

There are many activities in addition to the core learning and play that takes place at the nursery and supports the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Framework. These activities are planned in advance and very often with parent participation.

The children also enjoy the many outings to the local park and library.

Food

At The Co-operative Childcare we offer a comprehensive package and provide all nappies and food (breakfast, mid morning snack, lunch, mid afternoon snack, tea). Our experienced chef prepares a home cooked lunch every day using fresh produce sourced from local suppliers where possible including our local butcher a few minutes away from our nursery. This supports our ethics and values of being a co-operative and gives the children the nutrition they need to ensure they grow healthily whilst in our care. We also cater for all dietary requirements, allergies and cultural foods and our food is freshly made on a daily basis. Children always have access to fresh drinking water.

Parent involvement

The parents have an information board located in the reception area which has a variety of useful information. In the various 0 to 3 year olds home rooms they have a feedback sheet which includes the children’s daily information of how they have been, including sleep, food, nappies and anything that they have enjoyed during the day. The 3 to 5 year olds carers give verbal feedback to the parent on a daily basis. Regular newsletters are sent to parents to keep them updated on up and coming events and we encourage parent participation in many of them. Parents evening are offered at regular intervals throughout the year where the child’s key person discusses the child’s development with their parents and there is also an annual survey for parents to give structured feedback on all areas of the nursery. The management also hold regular meetings with parent representatives to ensure that there is a collaborative approach to the day to day operation of the nursery.

A word from the nursery manager

“We are a small and friendly, home from home nursery that pride ourselves on our personal approach and our very close relationship with not only our children but also their parents and carers.

We offer a variety of activities to stimulate and support individuality in all children. My nursery team are loyal and well qualified with the majority holding level 3 or above in childcare qualifications and some are also studying for a degree to further their personal development. Our Nursery holds a quality assurance certificate; Aiming High and we also encourage the team members to take on additional roles within the nursery such as Behaviour Co-ordinator and SENCO (Special Education Needs Co-ordinator). My team not only have a great deal of experience but they are also very enthusiastic in all that they do and this results in a very happy environment for our children to learn, play and develop in”
